Trust Gid With Tomorrow!
Trust God With Tomorrow
“But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.”
—Psalm 3:3
Reflection
Beloved, in order for us to walk with God more intimately, we must believe that God is reigning in our circumstances each and every day. He is paying attention to the details of our lives, and He is not going to leave us alone.
When Jacob was sleeping with his head on a rock, he had a dream in which he saw a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels of God ascending and descending upon it.
When he woke up, he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it” (Genesis 28:16).
What place was he referring to? The very place where he was lying. God was with him in his life, in his circumstances, right there, here and now. Through this experience, Jacob gained the confidence to know that he wasn’t alone.
We must make up our minds to trust God, regardless of what is taking place around us. God is our shield.
But there is a battle that takes place within our minds and imaginations.
What will happen tomorrow? Will I run out of money? Will I get sick? These kinds of thoughts stir up images in our imagination as we press on to walk with God.
When my children were young, I used to worry about them every night before I went to bed. Would they be okay tomorrow? Would something bad happen to them? I constantly worried as I tucked them in.
I know many parents share similar fears about their children.
But God does not want us to use our imagination to envision and project all kinds of disasters that could happen someday. Instead, we must take an offensive and proactive position and use our imagination to envision the good things of God.
God designed our imagination to meditate upon Him and His Word, not on the bad things that could happen in the future.
David wrote, “Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:6).
And Paul teaches us to destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3–5).
A battle is taking place within our minds and imaginations. The way to win this battle is to destroy the worries and fears that oppose the knowledge of God.
Each day we must decide what thoughts we will choose and focus on. As we learn to walk in God’s ways, fear will no longer have a stronghold over us. We will know how to take one step at a time, one day at a time, and one moment at a time in the Lord.
The Lord holds our hands every step of the way.
Application
- Recognize when your imagination begins to dwell on fearful possibilities. Take those thoughts captive and bring them into obedience to Christ.
- Choose to meditate on God’s Word and His goodness, trusting that He is reigning in your circumstances today.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for being my shield and for never leaving me alone. Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear and worry to control my thoughts. Help me stop worrying about tomorrow and trust that You are reigning in every circumstance of my life. Teach me to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to use my imagination to meditate upon Your goodness and Your Word. I receive Your peace and choose to walk with You one step at a time, knowing that You hold my hand every step of the way. In Yeshua’s name, amen
