PRAY!

Image
Lord God, you are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Though I know not when you will return, you call me and all people of faith to help people experience a glimpse of your realm by extending your love and grace throughout your whole creation. Help me to grow in the knowledge of your Son, Jesus Christ. To him be the glory now and forever! Amen.

Work While You Have the Opportunity!

Image
Work While You Have the  Opportunity “But now be strong, Zerubbabel,” declares the Lord. “Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,” declares the Lord, “and work. For I am with you,” declares the Lord Almighty. “This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.”  (Haggai 2:4–5) Opportunity is one of the greatest blessings that can be given to a person. Whenever we have opportunity to do something that advances the kingdom of God, we want to take advantage of it. Sometimes we have only one opportunity to do something; we never know if the same opportunity will come by again. It takes discernment provided to us by the Holy Spirit to know what opportunities are coming to us from the hand of God. The Lord tells us to be strong and to work, for he is with us in our endeavors. We don’t need to be afraid of failure, he promises to be with us. His Spirit gives us the capacity, the talen

Keep Moving!

Image
Keep Moving! The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. ” (Exodus14:15) A paper weight on my desk has the inscription, “Don’t wait for your ship to come in. Swim out to it!” In practicing  Kingdom of God , we aggressively look for ways to invest our talents for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. People often make the mistake of waiting for their ship to come in, hoping for something to come their way. Good intentions alone are not enough to accomplish any worthwhile objective. We often need to take a step in the direction of our goals. Perhaps the Lord is saying, “Stop waiting for your ship; start swimming!” Someone once said it is a lot easier to steer a moving car than one that is standing still. As we participate in worthwhile kingdom efforts, we can more easily see how the Lord is guiding us to the places where we can be the most productive when we are actively engaged in the process. We need to be alert to areas

See His Greatness!

Image
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. 1 Samuel 16:13, NKJV See His Greatness It’s significant that Samuel anointed David to be king in front of his father and brothers. His father hadn’t believed in him and had left him out in the shepherds’ fields when Samuel came. His brothers made fun of him and tried to make him feel small. David showed that if you become deaf to others’ negative comments and attitudes toward you, God will bless you in front of the people who tried to push you down. He will honor you in front of those who said you don’t have what it takes. God knows how to prepare a table for you in the presence of your enemies. He is not going to promote you in private, but He’ll promote you where those who didn’t believe in you will see you honored, in new levels of influence and favor. Be respectful to others, but don’t let their doubts and negativity toward you cancel o

Countering a Culture of Instant Gratification!

Image
Countering a Culture of Instant Gratification Jacob cooked some stew, and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished. So Esau said to Jacob, “Feed me some of the red stuff—yes, this red stuff—because I’m starving!” … But Jacob replied, “Firstsell me your birthright.” “Look,” said Esau, “I’m about to die! What use is the birthright to me?” But Jacob said, “Swear an oath to me now.” So Esauswore an oath to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew; Esau ate and drank, then got up and went out. So Esau despised his birthright.  (Genesis 25:29–34) In this passage of Scripture, we see a man foolishly give up his birthright; he exchanges all the benefits and the favor of his father for a pot of stew just because he is hungry at the moment. His temporary hunger causes him to mistakenly give up a permanent blessing for something transient. How foolish! Esau did not take time to think of the devastating consequences of his careless acti

Willing and Obedient!

Image
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” Isaiah 1:19 Willing and Obedient It’s one thing to be obedient to what God says, that’s good. But if you really want to experience God’s best, you need to be more than obedient; you have to be willing. You have to do it with the right attitude—not of obligation where you have to, but with an attitude of gratitude. It’s one thing to give because you have to. It’s another thing to give because you want to. It’s one thing to go to work to pick up a paycheck. It’s another thing to go to work to be a blessing to somebody else. It’s one thing to stay married to your spouse because it’s the right thing to do. People may look down on you if you don’t. But it’s another thing to stay married to your spouse, to treat him or her with respect, to honor and help your partner reach a higher level. That’s being willing and obedient. When you do the right thing with the right motives, there’s no limit to what God will do in

The World Is Passing Away!

Image
The World Is Passing Away The world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remainsforever.   ( 1 John 2:17) This verse reminds us that the world we live in is passing away, but the person who does the will of God will live forever. These words hit me like a bullet between the eyes. In my own life, many of things I considered important over the years are now gone! The company I worked for is now gone. Boards of companies I served on are now gone. Some of my friends are now gone. Our bodies are temporary. Let’s face it: we are only leasing them, having to turn them in at the end of the lease term. The Bible has many references regarding the brevity of life. Psalm 144:4 tells us, “[People] are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.” Our life is like a breath that passes by and does not return. That is really brief! However, all of us who have accepted Christ into our life now have a relationship with a heavenly father. And we

Mountains or Molehills!

Image
“So, big mountain, who do you think you are? Next to Zerubbabel you’re nothing but a molehill. He’ll proceed to set the Cornerstone in place, accompanied by cheers: Yes! Yes! Do it!” Zechariah 4:7 Mountains or Molehills When Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah who was in charge of the rebuilding of the temple at Jerusalem, faced opposition, God spoke today’s Scripture. Mountains represent permanent, immovable obstacles. Depression can be a mountain, people at work who are not for you, an illness, debt, lack, or an addiction.  Now, this is a new day. God is about to flatten that mountain into a molehill. He’s about to remove some obstacles. What used to hold you back is not going to limit you anymore. People who weren’t for you will suddenly be out of your path. That mountain of discouragement is about to become a molehill.  You have to receive this by faith. This won’t do you any good if you think your situation will never turn around. You can cancel out what God wants to do with doubt

Be a Converterlator!

Image
Be a Converterlator “ Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. ” (Luke 16:9, NLT) In  KingdomNomics,  one of the principles we have emphasized is that we are engaged in leveraging the perishable into the imperishable. We are agents of change, transformers who are experiencing an earthly life now that will also echo into eternity. We have developed a new word with its various renditions to describe what we are doing:  converterlating . We are  Converterlators , people who are converting the perishable into the imperishable. People who are using our worldly resources to benefit others and make an impact on eternity. If you are a Converterlator, you are engaged in converterlating your time, talent, and treasure to bring about change. The Bible is our greatest resource in determining how best to use our earthly resources. Once we have m

The Oil of Joy!

Image
You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. Psalm 45:7 The Oil of Joy When you keep God first, He puts on you an anointing of the oil of joy to which nothing can stick. You’re like a nonstick baking pan. Disrespect will come, and people will say hurtful things, but the good news is that you have a nonstick anointing. You can let that go, and it will slide right off you and have no effect. You could be offended when your coworker leaves you out and plays politics, but you have the oil of joy and just let it go. When someone is rude to you, you could give them a piece of your mind, but like that nonstick pan, it slides right off. You go on and enjoy the day.  You weren’t created to hold on to offenses, disrespect, or hurtful words. Keep yourself oiled up. The next time that something happens that could upset you, take a new approach: “Father, thank You that I’ve been anointed with the oil o

Don’t Forfeit Your Future for Today!

Image
Don’t Forfeit Your Future for Today Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.  (Jonah 2:8, NIV84) When we decide to cling to “worthless idols” instead of following God-given directives, our lives can be shortened or destroyed. A self-driven life forfeits what possibly could have been a great future for the rubble of temporary pleasures. And idols can present themselves in many forms. This principle is demonstrated over and over in the Bible: Cain was jealous of Abel, killing him in anger to appease his own emotions, and was thus a wanderer for the rest of his life (Genesis 4:1–12). Esau traded his birthright for a bowl of stew (Genesis 25:27–34). Achan and his entire family were stoned to death because Achan disobeyed the Lord by taking and hiding silver in his tent when the Hebrews attacked the city of Ai as they entered the Promised Land (Joshua 7). Absalom shortened his life by rebelling against his father, King David (2 Samuel 15–18). King Belshaz

So Much More!

Image
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20 So Much More A little frog loved living in the bottom of a well. He thought he had all the water in the world to play in. Life was good. One day he climbed to the top of the well and cautiously peered over the edge. Much to his surprise, he saw a lake and couldn’t fathom that much water. He ventured out and eventually came to an ocean. As far as he could see, there was nothing but water. Here he thought his well held all the water in the world, but it was only a drop in the bucket.  Many times our thinking is limited to the environment in which we were raised. We get comfortable with a limited vision, lack, and dysfunction. It’s all we’ve seen. Can I tell you that there’s so much more? God has oceans of favor, oceans of grace, oceans of new opportunities. It’s time to stretch and release your faith for the new things God has in your future. Start

You Are God’s Instrument!

Image
.         You Are God’s Instrument And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”  (Genesis 41:41) What a life Joseph experienced! Favored by his earthly father; abandoned by his brothers, sold as a slave, falsely accused of assaulting the wife of his boss, thrown into prison, made second in command over Egypt, and finally, the savior of his family, Joseph experienced highs and lows in his life. And all this happened by the time he was forty years old! Through all of these experiences, Joseph maintained his trust in God. He never became bitter over the brutal treatment, abandonment, imprisonment, and false promises made to him. And God used Joseph in the midst of his impossible circumstances. We, like Joseph, also experience God’s care during impossible times. God uses each one of us in a special way to accomplish his purposes, bless us, and bless those around us. We are his instruments in an impossible world. God’s people are spread throughout the earth

You Can Shine Like a Star Forever!

Image
You Can Shine Like a Star Forever! But the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavenly expanse. And those bringing many to righteousness will be like the stars forever and ever. ”  (Daniel 12:3) You have the potential to be a star for all of eternity, shining in all of the brilliance of heaven. And those who are engaged in turning many to righteousness will shine even more brilliantly according to this passage. Since the Word of God and the souls of people will be the only things to last forever, it makes sense for us to spend our time, talent, and treasure to win as many people to Jesus Christ as possible. The eternal factor that all of the human race has to consider, is the most important decision any individual faces. It determines our eternal destiny! In the book of Proverbs, we are exhorted to seek wisdom. Such wisdom includes being involved in winning souls for Christ by helping in what many Christians refer to as the Great Commission. All of us need to find ways in whi

Make the Most of Your Life!

Image
Make the Most of Your Life Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  (Colossians 4:5) Making the most of the time we have been given is extremely important. Each one of us has been given a loaf of time. And that loaf grows shorter each day. We must thoughtfully decide what to do with each slice of time that we have. What objectives should we implement on a consistent basis if we want to make the most of our lives? First, the Word of God needs to become personally operative in our lives. We cannot effectively communicate biblical truth unless that truth operates in our own lives. Second, we need to see visible progress in how we steward our time, talent, and treasure, continually being transformed by the Holy Spirit into strategic kingdom investors. We must be interested in not only enjoying life now, but also in having our lives echo into eternity in a way that pleases our heavenly Father. Third, we should strive to be low-profile, hig

If You Only Knew!

Image
Jesus replied, “If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you, you’d ask me for a drink, and I would give you living water.” John 4:10 If You Only Knew In John 4, Jesus met a Samaritan woman who had been married five times and was living with a sixth man. She’d gone through great rejection and heartache, been taken advantage of, made a lot of mistakes, and felt ashamed and unworthy. When she asked Jesus why He, a Jew, would ask her, a Samaritan who was despised by the Jews, for a drink of water, He replied, in effect, “If you only knew how I’m about to heal your hurts, restore your sense of value, and thrust you into your purpose, you would know why.” She came to the well defeated and broken, but she left with a new passion, a new self-image, knowing she was valuable, redeemed, and forgiven, a child of the Most High God. God is saying to you, “If you only knew how I can make miracles out of your mistakes. If you only knew how I can r
