Recognize God’s Goodness!

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”
Daniel 4:37
Recognize God’s Goodness
In Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar had been boasting that it was by his power that the great city Babylon had been built. Even while he was speaking, God said, “Nebuchadnezzar, this day you lost the kingdom.” Why is that? God will not share His glory. If you’re going to claim it as your own, as though it was by your ability or strength, He’ll step away, with consequences. For seven years, Nebuchadnezzar lost his throne and his sanity.

What’s interesting is that when Nebuchadnezzar changed his mind and realized it was God who had given him the favor, that it was God who had promoted him, he humbled himself and spoke today’s Scripture. A few verses earlier he was saying, “My power, my might.” Now he was saying, “I praise the King of heaven.” Instead of taking the credit, he started giving God the credit. When he did, God gave him another chance and put him back in power. When you’re constantly giving God the honor and credit for what He’s done, there’s no limit to how high you will go.
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who rules over the nations. I recognize Your goodness in my life and where I am at today. You chose to bless me, to have mercy on me, and to take me where I couldn’t go on my own. I humble myself and give You all the glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
