  Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me?” 2 Kings 20:8 Sign or No Sign King Hezekiah was dying of an illness when God heard his prayer and promised he would be miraculously healed in three days and his life would be extended for fifteen years. But after the excitement of the promise wore off, Hezekiah started wondering how he could know his healing was for certain. So he asked for a sign, which God gave him, and he was healed. God is merciful, and He’ll give us a sign sometimes. But if you live by the approach that God has to prove that He’s going to do what He’s said or you’re not going to believe, you’ll always be dependent on signs and never reach the fullness of your destiny. Perhaps you’re praying for a sign but you’re not seeing anything. The right attitude is: “God, I don’t need a sign that You’re going to do it; You’ve already proven to me who You are. You’ve already made ways where I didn’t see a way, opened doors I couldn’t open, and...

  Converterlating Your Time “Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.”  (Ephesians 5:10) While we are living in this world, each one of us has twenty-four hours each day. That doesn’t seem like so much until you break it down and discover it represents 1,440 minutes! That’s a lot of minutes … and we all have the same amount to use. We may have different talents, and the amount of treasure varies from person to person, but we all have the same amount of time. And the basic question I have for you here is:  In what ways are you using the time God has given to you in this world?  Think about that for a few of your valuable minutes. Really! What are you presently using your time for? Are you frantically trying to cram in all of your commitments? Are you spending too much time on frivolous things? Are the things you are pursuing bringing you joy — or exhaustion? And if you are honest, how much of your time are you using up on perishable pursuits, and how much are you in...

Philippians 4:8 Be Selective What’s playing in your mind? What are you giving access to? You can’t think negative and have a positive life. You can’t think sickness and get well. You can’t think lack and have abundance. The battle is taking place in your mind. Why are you letting destructive thoughts in? Why are you letting fear roam around? Why are you letting worry have free rein? Why are you allowing doubt to hold you back? You have complete control over what you let in. You can’t stop negative thoughts from coming and knocking on the door, but you don’t have to give them access. Be selective of what you allow in.    Eternal Significance “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”  (Ephesians 3:20–21) Each one of us needs to answer the question:  What is God’s purpose for me?  Once we have the answer to that question, we need to figure out  how  we can successfully fulfill that purpose. After all, each one of us will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ someday to render an accounting. There is no way to avoid that appointment. That is a sobering thought to me; what I do matters, and it actually matters to others as well.   “We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” Numbers13:33  You’re Not at a Disadvantage When Moses sent twelve men to spy out the Promised Land, ten spies came back intimidated and afraid. They felt like grasshoppers because they didn’t understand that God will put you in situations where you’re the underdog. You don’t have the skill, the resources, the training, the connections. As the Israelites did, if you stay focused on what you don’t have, you’ll talk yourself out of what God has for you. The right approach is, “I may feel like a grasshopper, but I know that God being for me is greater than the world being against me.” So what do you think about what you have? Are you discounting what God has given you? God has given you the talent, the courage, the skills, the looks, and the personality you need.   God’s Plans and Purposes Plan and purpose are concepts that flow beautifully through the entire Bible. There is nothing random or spontaneous about our God and his works. He is purposeful in all things. God’s kingdom is increased by men and women who tap into the purpose that God has for them. They understand that their story is part of a much bigger story, his story, and this great insight becomes their guiding light. Perhaps the greatest verse in the Bible on the subject of God’s will is this one: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Consider what that one verse means for your life: God has a plan perfectly formulated with your name on it. It’s a good plan. He didn’t create you to be miserable, but to be fruitful. Lord God, you are patient and kind and full mercy. Whenever I stray from your teachings, you call me to return to you, ready to welcome and forgive me. I offer you my repentant heart, trusting in your mercy and steadfast love. Amen.
