  “Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’” Isaiah 45:9 Hold Tightly, Hold Loosely Many years ago, we desire  for a house . We prayed over it, thanking God that it was ours, and made an offer. But the seller rejected our offer. We were deeply disappointed, but if we’re only going to be happy if God does it our way, that’s not trusting Him; that’s giving God orders. A few months later, we purchased another house. A few years after that, we sold half of that property for more than we paid for the whole property and built a new house there. God blessed us in ways greater than we’d ever imagined. We believe in praying bold prayers for our dreams, believing for big things. But we’ve learned to let God do it His way. Both Jeremiah and the psalmist show us how to position ourselves in relationship to God so that he can make himself known to us and actively participate in our lives. Feeding on the Word of God is critical for this to happen. Jeremiah gives us the “mechanics” for experiencing God in our life. When he found God’s Words, he “ate” them. In other words, he internalized them by  memorizing them and meditating  on them to the point that those words became his heart’s delight. I like to call these kinds of verses “Spiritual M&Ms,...

  “Let him not deceive himself by trusting what is worthless, for he will get nothing in return.” Job 15:31 Be Secure in Who You Are Many people can’t feel good about themselves unless they prove to other people that they are important. They are always having to outdo, outperform, outdrive, and outdress somebody else. If you live in a proving mode, it’s as though you’re running on a treadmill that never stops. As soon as you prove to one person that you’re okay, you’ll see somebody else you need to impress. It’s a never-ending cycle. You have to get off that treadmill. It’s very freeing when you realize you don’t have to prove anything to anyone. Are you trying to prove your value by who you know, what you wear, or what you drive? Learn to be secure in who you are—you are a child of the Most High God. You belong to God. Whether you’re wearing Gucci or Goodwill, whether it’s Calvin Klein or Fruit of the Loom, your value never changes. You don’t have to have popularity, possessions, ...

  Ready to Do Good Works? “ Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. ” (2 Timothy 2:21) In order to perform effective and safe surgeries, a surgeon must take extreme caution to ensure that instruments are properly sterilized. Otherwise there is a risk of serious infection occurring. Uncleansed instruments are not useful to the surgeon. One function of God’s Word is to cleanse us as we  soak  our heart in it. This is vitally necessary if we are to be effective instruments fit for use by God. God has a special purpose for each Christian. He wants to work through us; however, he must have cleansed “instruments” so he can use us for noble purposes. Scripture tells us, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. ” (1 John 1:9) We can think of this core verse as a spiritual “bar of soap” and em...

  Who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies… Psalm 103:4, NKJV Tender Mercies Where would you be if God had not redeemed you from your wrong choices? Perhaps some of the things in your past—the group of friends, the drugs and alcohol, the reckless driving, a freak accident—could have taken you out. You were headed down the wrong path, doing things that you knew were not God’s best, but you encountered the God who overrules. He loves you too much to let you miss your purpose. Today’s Scripture talks about the tender mercies of God—not “mercy” but “mercies.” Again and again, God shows you mercy. His mercies are new and available to you every morning. You may have made a lot of mistakes, but the good news is, you don’t have to carry that around with you. Do you feel like there’s something between you and God right now?   Our Power Drink for the Day “ For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. ” (Psalm 36:9) In the game of football, all the players on each team try to keep the opposite team from carrying the ball across the goal line. Many times they drink a power drink to aid them in their efforts. We know that Satan is doing his best to disrupt our lives and divert our attention from achieving the goals God has for us. It is only through God’s Word that we can drink the  POWER DRINK  we need to feed and energize us for the day. As we walk through this spiritually dark world, his word is a lamp to our feet. When we sit in darkness, the Lord is our light, and in his light we see light. Because life is such a battle, it is critical that we “drink” as much of his Word as possible. God’s Word is living and powerful, quenching the thirst of those who trust in it. Today, ask yourself: Am I taking time to POWER UP with the Word of God?

  Lord God, you are my shepherd. Lead me each day in the way of your truth and righteousness. Help me to remember your great deeds and all that you have done as I meditate today on your mighty acts. Amen.
