Your Reward in Heaven

Image
Most people don’t understand the Bible’s view of eternity. They understand that there is a physical world, the one in which we live and age and finally die. And they realize there is the eternal world that follows, bound by heaven and hell, but not physical locations or the passing of time. They see it as a “someday” place, something not really real until we get there. Yes, there really is a physical heaven, where God is and where we will see him. Paul says that “For now we see in a mirror indirectly, but then we will see face to fact. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known” (1 Corinthians 13:12). So we know that heaven will be wonderful, and there will be no more mysteries. However, it’s important to understand that eternal reality isn’t confined to being a someday thing.  It is also a now thing. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians speaks of the “heavenly realms.” He means the eternal realit...

Highly Favored

Image
God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:26–28, NIV) Highly Favored Mary didn’t come from an influential, wealthy family. In the natural, there was nothing special about her. When the angel, Gabriel, appeared to her and called her “highly favored,” I’m sure at first Mary thought, You have the wrong girl. I’m just average. It’s easy to talk yourself out of what God says about you. But God is saying the same thing to you. Gabriel then told her she was going to have a baby without knowing a man. Sometimes God puts promises in our heart that seem unlikely. That’s why Gabriel started off the conversation by telling Mary that she was highly favored. When you face a situation that seems impossible, you have to keep reminding yourself that you are ...

What Requests do you have for Jesus?

Image
“Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.” —Matthew 20:32–34 “Then the Lord said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.’” Jeremiah 1:12 If Jesus were to stop by your home, what one request would you have for him? I believe today’s passages suggest a request that should be high on our priority list: Lord, please open our eyes. But unlike the men in this story, we do not need physical sight, we need spiritual sight. We need sight to understand who God is and what he desires for us. In our relationship with the Lord, each one of us should have the desire to see and understand God’s will for us in the time we have remaining in this world. We need to understand what God wants us to do. Paul prayed for the Ephesians: “I pray thatthe God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,...

He’s Giving You His Kingdom!

Image
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (Ephesians 2:4–5) He’s Giving You His Kingdom The apostle Paul talked about the great love wherewith God loved us and brought us salvation. It wasn’t a get-by or don’t-bother-me love. God is madly in love with you. What He has in store is going to boggle your mind. His kingdom is rich in mercy, filled with joy, favor, and blessings. He has things in your future that you’ve never dreamed of. The question is, are you expecting it? God is not limited by what you don’t have, by how you were raised, by your education. His favor on your life will open doors you couldn’t open and cause you to accomplish more with less talent. His blessing will bring divine connections, people who will use their influence to push you forward. Now get in agreement with God. All through the day be saying, “Father, thank You that You’re givin...

Your Daily Commitment to God’s Word!

Image
Your Daily Commitment to God’s Word “We never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God — which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.”  (1 Thessalonians 2:13) Are you reading and studying God’s Word every day, letting its message soak into your mind and heart? As we consider the lives of the great Bible heroes, we see that they depended on the Word of God to guide and direct them. God told Joshua that if he wanted to be successful he would need to meditate on God’s Word (see Joshua 1:8). David valued God’s Word more than thousands of pieces of gold and silver (see Psalm 19:10). Job said he treasured God’s Word more than his daily food (see Job 23:12). Jeremiah said when he found God’s words, he ate them and they became his heart’s delight (see Jeremiah 15:16). Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is alive and powerfu...

Quit Trying to Figure it Out!

Image
“I sent the hornet ahead of you, which drove them out before you—also the two Amorite kings. You did not do it with your own sword and bow. So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build.” (Joshua 24:12–13) Quit Trying to Figure it Out The Israelites were up against several nations that were much bigger, stronger, and trained for war. They didn’t stand a chance on their own. So did God send in an army of angels to get rid of these powerful armies? No, He sent hornets ahead of the Israelites so they didn’t even have to fight. When you don’t see how your situation can work out, don’t worry. God has plenty of hornets. He has ways you’ve never thought of. Quit trying to figure it out and trust Him. He’s in control of your life. He knows how to get you to where you’re supposed to be. God is going ahead of you. Quit worrying, quit losing sleep. Put down your sword and shield. He’s going to give you land that you didn’t work for. You’re not going to have to ...

Day by Day by Day!

Image
Day by Day by Day “The Lord your God is living among you.”  (Zephaniah 3:17) Our relationship with God is not passive or dormant; it is dynamic, full of purpose, active, creative, and productive. In order to accomplish all that God has willed for us, it is critical that we utilize the time we have on earth. We are here for such a short time, and Scripture actually instructs us to “number our days” (see Psalm 90:12). God has created us in Christ Jesus to do good works (see Ephesians 2:10). And we need to be busy doing them until he either comes for us or we physically die and go to live with him. It is our responsibility to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus. God has taken each one of us, transformed us, and now has a plan for how we can make a difference in his world. I personally have experienced how God can take a totally self-absorbed, selfish, self-ambitious person (do you see the word  self  showing up in every adjective?) who lived a life consumed with ...
