Glory to God in the highest! Lord Jesus, I join in singing the angels’ song and celebrate your birth. You are my Savior, and the good news of your birth fills me with great joy. Amen.

Time to Rejoice!

Image
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” Luke 2:13–14 Time to Rejoice On the night Jesus Christ was born, shepherds were out in a field near Bethlehem when an angel appeared to them and told them the good news about His birth. Then suddenly, a vast host of angels appeared who were praising God. The Scripture tells us that there are angels in heaven singing God’s praises day and night. Think about this: When you praise God, you are joining with the angels in heaven! What an awesome thought that we can be one with the heavenly hosts when we worship. As you celebrate the birth of Jesus on this Christmas Eve, take time to rejoice with the angels that the Son of God came to us as a baby. Turn your thoughts toward our Lord and Savior because He is good and worthy of all our praise. In the words of Psalm 95, “So come, let us worship: bow be...

The Spirit Operates!

Image
The Spirit Operates Scripture: Galatians 5:16 “ So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. ”  There is a war inside of each of us. Though the old flesh always wants to reassert itself, the power of the Spirit can overcome it if we ask in faith for him to control how we think, feel, act, and talk. “ The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. ” (Romans 8:6) The  mind  is key. The battle first takes place in our head. Whoever controls our mind, controls us. It is crucial we set our minds on what the Spirit desires. “ Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. ” (Romans 8:5) “ Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ” (Colossians 3:2) Paul further wrote, “ We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the kn...

Speak Faith-Filled Words!

Image
“For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Luke 1:37–38 Speak Faith-Filled Words Words are powerful. A teenage girl named Mary became pregnant, not by a man, but by a word from God. The angel Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Mary, you are highly favored! You will conceive and have a baby without knowing a man. He will be the Messiah, the Son of God.” When God wants to create, He doesn’t use material things; He uses words. Mary could have said to the angel, “That’s impossible. It’s never happened before.” Instead she said, “Be it unto me even as you have said.” She got in agreement with God. She used her words to confirm what she heard, not to debate what she heard. When God puts a promise in your heart, just agree with Him. The Scripture says, “By His stripes you are healed.” Don’t debate it. “I don’t feel healed. My back is still sore.” Get in a habit of speaking faith-filled words. “Lord, thank You that...

Walking in the Newness of Life!

Image
Walking in the Newness of Life Scripture: Romans 6:4 “ When we were baptized, we were buried with Christ and shared his death. So, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the wonderful power of the Father, we also can live a new life. ”  Living a new kind of life is now possible for the believer who understands and practices these wonderful concepts. We have seen how the Spirit of Christ seals us, how we must choose to be controlled by him in our thought life, and how we can put to death the misdeeds of the body by the Spirit of Christ. The reality of Paul’s insight—“ I was put to death on the cross with Christ, and I do not live anymore—it is Christ who lives in me. I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself to save me. ” (Galatians 2:20)—becomes more of our everyday life experiences. The Spirit of Christ overpowers the old self so we can walk in newness of life. In fact, our lives become hidden in Christ: “ For you died,...

The Blessing and the Burden!

Image
The angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Luke 1:28 The Blessing and the Burden Mary was told she would give birth to the Savior of the world. You can’t get any more favored than that. But with that blessing came a burden. She was favored but misunderstood. Favored but ridiculed. Favored but controversial. People whispered, “She got pregnant before her wedding.” On one hand, she’s excited and can hardly believe the blessing. On the other hand, she must tell Joseph and face having her heart broken. Sometimes God will ask us to do things that are difficult. It would be much easier to stay in our comfort zone and not rock the boat. But God loves you too much to let you miss your destiny. He’s saying, “You’ve been highly favored. I’m going to take you where you’ve never dreamed and open doors that you couldn’t open.” You can handle the blessing, but can you handle the burden? Do as Mary did and keep the right attitude, kn...

Giving Equals Investment!

Image
Giving Equals Investment Scripture: Matthew 6:20–21 “ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ”  THE TWO BIG REASONS TO GIVE 1. Giving is your investment in eternity.  It is your eternal investment account. The Christian life is all about giving, and we are not just talking about money. Giving includes giving one’s self, time, talent, and treasure. Only two things will last for all of eternity: God’s Word will endure forever, and the souls of people will live forever in one of two places. Everything else perishes. Everything you and I can see and touch is going to perish. Our relationship with Jesus Christ will determine  WHERE  we live in eternity. How we spend our time, talent, and treasure will determine  HOW  we live in eternity. 2. Giving is the MAJOR GATEWAY  for God to work big time in the...
