Day 17                         Embrace Your Citizenship “ For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. ”  —Hebrews 13:14 “ But our citizenship is in heaven—and we also eagerly await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. ”  —Philippians 3:20 If you feel unsettled at times and wonder just where you fit into this world, this may be God’s way of telling you not to become too comfortable down here.  This unsettledness comes because we know that this world, in its present form, is passing away!  We also know that the man who does the will of God will live forever.  The brevity of this life sends us a message–don’t fall in love with this world because we are just passing through.   “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight...” (Isaiah 45:2) Believe Again You may have big obstacles in your path that you can’t overcome on your own. The good news is that you’re not on your own. You have the most powerful force in the universe breathing in your direction. When He speaks, Red Seas part, blind eyes open, and dreams come back to life. We look at our circumstances in the natural, but He’s a supernatural God. He goes before you, makes your crooked places straight, and fights your battles. No person can stop you—no bad break, no sickness, no failure. Maybe at one time you believed, you were passionate and excited about life, but things haven’t turned out the way you hoped. You had some bad breaks, some disappointments. God is saying, “It’s time to believe again.” You haven’t seen your best days. What God promised you is still going to come to pass. You haven’t missed too many opportunities.   My Heart’s Goal “ For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. ” (Romans 14:17) It took me a long time to figure out that life does not consist of an abundance of things. Life is in the Spirit. Living for kingdom values, and investing our  time, talent, and treasure  for the kingdom are goals we practice in Kingdom of God. The Spirit searches all things and reveals the deep things of God. Through the Spirit, we discover the secrets of the kingdom. Therefore, our key objective is to  sow  to the Spirit  so we can experience eternal life. “ Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. ” (Galatians 6:8) Yes, the Spirit will impart his life to us as we live in harmony with him. “ The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from th...

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest. (Hebrews 4:11) Labor to Rest “Strive” or “labor” to enter God’s rest. It sounds like a contradiction. God used that word because He knew it would take work to stay seated. It’s easy to stand up and worry over problems and try to fix everything in our own strength. That’s why it says to labor to enter His rest. It’s going to take effort. It doesn’t say work to straighten out your coworker, work to make that problem go away, or work to break that addiction. He says work to stay seated. Work to live from a place of resting in God’s grace and strength. If you’re trying to break a bad habit, you should be determined and disciplined, but if you’re trying to force it to happen in your own strength, you’re not tapping into God’s grace. Jesus defeated every enemy, including that one. You’re not working to get the victory; you are working from the place of His victory. Stay in peace and let God make things happen that you couldn’t make happen. A Prayer...

  Seek, Set, and Let “ Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. ” (Colossians 3:1–3) Seeking the things above, and the realities of heaven, requires discipline. It takes discipline to effectively face and overcome diversions and the challenges of living in a broken world where everything we see and feel is in the process of perishing. We are only passing through a world in which we do not have a continuing city. Think in terms of  expanding the kingdom  – of helping people to come to Christ – of helping to fulfill the Great Commission. We are transformed as we renew our minds in the Word of God. That takes time and effort. We need to study, meditate, and allow the peace of Christ to rule in our heart. The more we practice the...

  The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant. (Psalm 25:14) Insider Trading When you honor God, He will tell you secrets. He’ll whisper things in your inner ear, give insight into what you couldn’t have known otherwise. You can’t explain it, you don’t know how you know it, but you just know it. We hear of people getting in trouble for insider trading. That means somebody inside the company who has knowledge of what’s going on is giving another person on the outside information about their stock that’s going to cause it go up or down before the public knows. That way they can sell off or buy more. They have an advantage because they have inside information. That’s what God does for us. He knows where the good breaks are, and He knows how to catapult you years ahead.   4 Rs: Son Power Seals, Reveals, and Deals “For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”  (Acts 17:28) Once we accept Jesus Christ into our life, Son Power is all encompassing. It affects all aspects of our relationship with God. Relationship Our relationship with God is established when the Holy Spirit seals us at the time we believe and trust in Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior. We are his offspring in the sense we are now children of God, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ. We are in his “bloodline” because of the blood of Christ which pays for our sin. This is a relationship that cannot be broken (as noted by a multitude of passages in the Bible). Revelation The establishment of our relationship with God is just the beginning step.
