The Hidden Person of the Holy Spirit

Image
…let it be the hidden person of the heart , with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:4 The Hidden Person of the Heart There’s a lot of compromise in our society. People think nothing about being dishonest, making underhand deals, not keeping their word. Then they wonder why they can’t get ahead. It’s because they don’t have integrity . It’s because in “the hidden person of the heart,” their motives are wrong. In their hearts, they’re thinking, “How much can I get away with and still get by? How late can I come to work and not get in trouble? How far can I stretch this half-truth and not get caught?” Rather than trying to cross the line, a person of integrity is careful to see how far behind that line they can stay. Many decisions we face are simply tests. God is seeing if we are ready to go higher. People may not be watching, but God is watching what we do in secret. How we live in private will determi...

Giving: Your Investment for Eternity!

Image
Giving: Your Investment for Eternity Scripture: Matthew 6:20 & Matthew 6:33 “ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven , where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. ” ( Matthew 6:20 ) “ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness , and all these things will be given to you as well. ” ( Matthew 6:33 ) The world gets it backwards.  It says to earn as much as you can, save as much as you can, and then sit on your can. Spend it on yourself and have a good time while you can. Jesus Christ came to reveal the opposite: “…But it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior , Christ Jesus , who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel .”  ( 2 Timothy 1:10 ) He has revealed to us true life in addition to the reality of eternity or immortality. He tells us to prepare for eternity. Eternity is the real world and the one lasting forever! We can actually store up treasu...

Stand Out!

Image
When [Joseph’s] master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did…Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.  Genesis 39:3–4, NIV Stand Out Because there was a blessing on Joseph’s life, he went from being an unnoticed, insignificant slave to being the favorite. Potiphar was so impressed he put Joseph in charge of his household. That’s the power of the blessing. When people try to push you down, it causes you to rise up. When people try to discount you, it causes you to be noticed. There were other people working for Potiphar who had more seniority, more training, and more experience, but the blessing on Joseph’s life caused him to stand out. People may not recognize you yet. Your boss doesn’t give you credit. Relatives discount you and think you don’t have much to offer. You may be overlooked now, but the time is coming where you’re going to be noticed. Keep doing the right...

The Sowing and Reaping Principle!

Image
The Sowing and Reaping Principle Scripture: Galatians 6:8 “ Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. ” ( Galatians 6:8 ) The sowing and reaping principle is a key spiritual concept we need to incorporate in our lives. In the secular world we understand the more we invest in a good investment, the greater returns we can expect. The same is true in a spiritual sense. “ Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. ” ( 2 Corinthians 9:6 ) The returns for investing properly in the kingdom of God are going to be HUGE! It makes sense for us to be wise and invest as much as we can when we have the opportunity to do so. Once our time, talent, and treasure are invested or given, they cannot be taken away by anything or anyone. They are kept in heaven for us along with our salvation. “ And into an inheritance...

Sovereign!

Image
The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne. Psalm 89:7 Sovereign We all go through situations that are unfair, things we don’t understand, but God is sovereign. It’s interesting that the word “sovereign” has the word “reign” in it. God is showing us that even when things happen that don’t make sense we have to keep Him on the throne. He’s still in control. He’s still directing our steps. When the medical report is not good, when somebody did us wrong, when we lost our biggest client, we may not understand it, but God is sovereign. He is the Most High God. He reigns over those circumstances. But here’s the key: His power and favor won’t do you any good unless you have Him on the throne. When things go wrong and don’t make sense, it’s easy to get bitter and go around discouraged, but if you put Him on the throne, He’ll start reigning. He’ll make a way where you don’t see a way. He’ll promote you when people try to hold yo...

How to Score Points for Eternity!

Image
How to Score Points for Eternity Scripture: Luke 16:9 “ I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings . ” ( Luke 16:9 ) We had better listen carefully to any words Jesus Christ uttered. They are just as applicable today as they were when he walked the earth. We have seen how he brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. He also brought to light the perishable and the imperishable. Everything we can see and touch is perishing: “ For this world in its present form is passing away. ” ( 1 Corinthians 7:31b ) Paul said, “ And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. ” ( 1 Corinthians 9:25 ) The Kingdom of God  practitioner is incentivized by the imperishable values held dearly by almighty God. Jesus tells us to use worldly wealth to gain friends for eternity, so that when worldl...

Acts 19:21-41!

Image
Introduction Acts 19:21–41 : Demetrius , a silversmith in Ephesus who made silver models of the temple of the goddess Artemis , sees his business, along with the economy of the city, threatened and undermined by Paul’s teachings . He stirs up opposition to Paul’s evangelizing work , and a city clerk is finally able to subdue the noisy crowd. Today’s Key Verse: Acts 19:30 GNT Paul himself wanted to go before the crowd, but the believers would not let him. Read 21  After these things had happened, Paul made up his mind [ a ]  to travel through Macedonia and Achaia and go on to Jerusalem . “After I go there,” he said, “I must also see Rome .”  22  So he sent Timothy and Erastus , two of his helpers, to Macedonia, while he spent more time in the province of Asia . 23  It was at this time that there was serious trouble in Ephesus because of the Way of the Lord .  24  A certain silversmith named Demetrius made silver models of the temple of the godd...

The Spirit Factor!

Image
The Spirit Factor Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:9–11 “ However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ” (1 Corinthians 2:9-11) If we hope to be effective in practicing the principles of KingdomNomics, we must experience a continuing and growing relationship with the person of Jesus Christ. This can only happen when the Spirit of God performs his functions within the heart of the believer. In the above passage, concentrate on the words “prepared,” “revealed,” “searches,” and “knows.” These are all functions performed by the Spirit of God for the people who love God. God has prepared things for those who love h...

Acts 19:1-20

Image
Acts 19:1–20 : Paul travels to Ephesus and teaches about being baptized in the name of Jesus . He stays in Ephesus for two years, teaching in the synagogue and lecturing in the hall of Tyrannus . Miraculous healings accompany his preaching. The practice of magic is incompatible with belief in Jesus , and the reading concludes with an account of those who had practiced magic disclosing their practices and burning their books. Today’s Key Verse: Acts 19:8 GNT Paul went into the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly with the people, holding discussions with them and trying to convince them about the Kingdom of God . Read 19  While Apollos was in Corinth , Paul traveled through the interior of the province and arrived in Ephesus. There he found some disciples  2  and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” “We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit,” they answered. 3  “Well, then, what kind of baptism did you ...
