THE BELLS AND THE POMEGRANATES!
THE BELLS AND THE POMEGRANATES
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses.
—Acts 1:8
Being an authentic witness is to represent Yeshua to anyone God has appointed us to influence so they will have an opportunity to either accept or reject Him.
This involves both our words and our deeds. The ancient high priest of Israel wore a robe that had pomegranates and bells all around its hem: “A golden bell and a pomegranate, all around on the hem of the robe. It shall be on Aaron when he ministers.” The bells could be heard; they represent our words that point people to the Messiah. The pomegranates represent the fruit of the Spirit, which should be reflected in our character and the way we live our lives.
Too often Christians are extreme on one side of this equation. For example, some believers are very kind, thoughtful, and giving, but they never tell those they’re helping about Jesus. This is like the high priest having pomegranates with no bells. On the other hand, some of us may be very bold in quoting the Bible to others, but we do it without sensitivity to the Spirit so that our witness comes off as hard and uncaring because we lack compassion and love. So the point, my beloved friend, is that we need both. We need to influence others for Jesus by our words and by the fruit of the Spirit that emanates from our personality and actions.
