I Am!

Image
I Am “ Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?”" John 18:4 The soldiers who came to take Jesus away the night before His crucifixion on the cross did not sneak up on Him and surprise Him, nor did Jesus need to ask who they were looking for. He knew they were looking for Him, but the soldiers did not understand who He was. He had to provide the opportunity for them to find out who He really was. When He did, they fell to the ground as dead men (John 18:6). The Greek phrase Jesus used to introduce Himself, translated “I am He” points to God’s declaration to Moses, “I Am That I Am” (Exodus 3:14). “I AM” did not stop with Jesus’ declaration to the soldiers. The name means “ever present”. “I AM” is not hindered by time. As a Christian, “I AM” now resides in you. "Jesus is always present."

Christ Alone is the Source of our Salvation!

Image
Christ Alone is the Source of our Salvation Scripture: Matthew 7:21–24 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”   Recently, I received an email from a subscriber of Kingdom of God wanting an explanation of the above verses. No matter how great the ministry of an individual may be, we must remember the source, power, and foundation of our salvation is the person of Jesus Christ alone. Only he gives us right standing before God, not our works. I believe Matthew 7:21–24 is referring to people who are trusting in their wor...

An Abundant Mentality!

Image
My cup overflows with blessings. (Psalm 23:5) An Abundant Mentality Some religious people will try to convince you that spiritual people should be poor and not have much of anything. They seem to prefer that you be constantly struggling, in debt, not able to pay your bills. That is not God’s best. Jesus didn’t come and give His life so we could barely get by and live off others’ leftovers. He came that we might live an abundant life (John 10:10). “Abundance” means to have plenty—plenty of joy, plenty of peace, plenty of good health, plenty of resources. Money shouldn’t be your focus, but the reality is that it takes money to fulfill dreams. When David says his cup overflowed with blessings, he means you have so much that you can’t contain it all. Can I tell you that we serve a God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think? He wants you to start having an abundant mentality. Enlarge your vision. Take the limits off yourself and off God. A Prayer for T...

Walking the Talk!

Image
Walking the Talk Scripture: Galatians 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” We recently received a question from a subscriber of the 31-day  Kingdom of God Applied  devotionals about how to overcome a particular moral issue in his life, in addition to fending off the accusations of Satan even after confession of the sin to God. We suggested several steps an individual can take to overcome sin. The first step is to confess: “ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ” (1 John 1:9) Confession includes repentance from continuing or practicing the sin. Second, God gives us the power to overcome temptation and sin by the power of the Holy Spirit.  “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the...

The King’s Service!

Image
The King’s Service Scripture: Matthew 7:8 “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. ”  There is nothing like being in the King’s service. Then we realize what we are designed for and the particular works he wants us to do. We experience a fulfilling and abundant life when we are in the center of God’s will. Our lives will truly echo into eternity as we experience the favor and blessing of God when we are in harmony with his will. How do we know this for sure?  “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ” (Ephesians 2:10) This verse tells how we are God’s handiwork, special vessels made for the purpose of being productive. He wants us to be engaged in the good works he has prepared for us. When we are spiritually born into his family, we become a new creation with renewed purposes and works to do for his kingdom. How do we find these...

New Life at Work!

Image
New Life at Work Scriptures: Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:11 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. ” (Galatians 2:20) “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. ” (Romans 6:11) Christ can live and continue his ministry through us while we are still in this world. These two verses encapsulate these “secrets” of the kingdom to us. If we grasp these truths, in faith, our lives will be in for radical change. We can become “overcomers,” no longer helpless victims enslaved to sin. We must be crucified with Christ, counting ourselves dead to sin. Yes, sin lurks inside of us, always trying to reassert itself. But the good news is we no longer have to surrender to its control. The following verses verify this spiritual truth: “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, ...

Opposition Will Backfire!

Image
I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God: Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury…so that the work will not stop. (Ezra 6:8) Opposition Will Backfire In the Scripture, a man named Zerubbabel was in charge of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem that had been destroyed years earlier. Everything was going fine until they laid the foundation, then the opposition came to the point where the king of Persia shut down the work. For several years, it looked as though the enemy had won. But when the king learned of the original decree to rebuild the temple, he not only approved the restart but he ordered funds from the royal treasury to pay the full construction costs. What the enemy meant for harm, God turned for good. You may have people and circumstances coming against you, but God knows how to cause it to backfire. Right now, favor is keeping your enemies from defeating you. As with Zerubbabel, you’re ...

The Roots of Hope!

Image
The Roots of Hope Scripture: Habakkuk 3:17–19 “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments. ”  From a circumstantial standpoint, the prophet Habakkuk lived in a terrible time. The land was soon to be invaded and, because of the disobedience of the people to God over time, prosperity was no more. Even though the circumstances were bad, Habakkuk gives us the formula for not only surviving but also thriving in such a period. The above passage shows us that Habakkuk did not allow circumstances to steal his joy. It is an example for us that our joy and happiness have to be based on more than just ...

A Time to Give Thanks!

Image
Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. (Psalm 118:1) A Time to Give Thanks Today is a special day for you to give thanks to God for the good things He has done in our land, in our lives, and in the lives of our family members. When you take the time to pause and remember, you can see those times in your life when God brought you victory, brought you success. When you remember what God has said and give thanks to God for who He is and all that He has done, it will transform your life. And let us remember that thanksgiving is an attitude of our heart. Living with an attitude of gratitude means you don’t just thank God for what He did in the past, you also thank Him for what He will do in the future. You thank Him for opening new doors, for increasing you, and for bringing the right people into your life. When we thank God in advance, that’s really a declaration of faith. Live every day with an attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving. A Prayer for...

Wake Up!

Image
Wake Up! Scripture: Jonah 1:6 “The captain went to him and said, ‘How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.’ ” How many Christians are living like this world is our final resting place, forgetting we are on mission with a spiritual battle raging all around us? The storms and turmoil we daily witness are the outward manifestations of what is going on behind the scenes in the spiritual world that we cannot see. Jonah had fallen asleep in the bowels of the ship while those above were in fear of their lives in the midst of a great storm. Jonah was on a detour of his own by disobeying the instructions from God to go to Nineveh to preach repentance. Basically, he was following his own agenda and not God’s. He ultimately came to realize,  “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.”  (Jonah 2:8) Jesus asked the same question of his disciples,  “ ‘Why are you sleeping?’ he ask...

Overtaken by Blessings!

Image
And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God. (Deuteronomy 28:2) Overtaken by Blessings God has things in your future that are much bigger than you’ve imagined. The odds may be against you, but God is for you. We ask God for things that seem reasonable to us. We ask for our healing, to get out of debt, to meet the right person. That’s good, but God has blessings that you’ve never asked for or even thought of. What He has in store for you is bigger than you can imagine. If He showed you all He has in your future, it would boggle your mind. When you have a heart to know God, and you’re being your best where you are, you won’t have to go after promotion; promotion will come after you. You won’t have to chase blessings; blessings will chase you. New doors are going to open, the right people will show up, and the problem will turn around. When you keep God first place, you won’t be able to outrun the good things of God—f...

Shine Like the Sun!

Image
Shine Like the Sun Scripture: Colossians 3:3 “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”   I once heard a preacher say, “Whatever you have will blow off on the way up or burn up on the way down.” There is truth in that statement. When you die and go to heaven, the cares and things of this world will have no impact whatsoever. That should make a big impact on us! The Psalmist realized this when he wrote,  “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”  (Psalm 73:25–26) Our inheritance is Jesus Christ. Someday we will be just like him.  “As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.”  (Psalm 17:15) Not only will we be satisfied, but we also will be ecstatic! “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known....
