The Word of God is Life Itself!

The Word of God is Life Itself!

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3)

Before I came to know Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, I foolishly believed that I would think about God later in life.

This passage makes it clear that we do not live by “bread alone” – by material things. We live by every word that flows from the mouth of God. He holds our breath in his hand and he determines how, when, where, and by what we will die. Life is not found in stuff, things, riches, or circumstances.

Jesus reinforces this truth. He said, “The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (John 6:63)

We are born of the Spirit. It is through the Word of God we find life. The Word enlightens us and gives us direction. The Word is life itself!

  • David valued God’s Word more than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.
  • Job treasured God’s Word more than his necessary food.
  • Jeremiah “ate” God’s Word when he found it, and it became his heart’s delight as he deliberated about it.

We are told, “…as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” (1 Peter 2:2)

The Word is food and life! The Word is the fuel, the SON POWER, that enables us to live the Christian life.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

Like food and medicine, the Word works mightily, strengthening us as we feed and meditate on what God says to us.

Talk to God

Thank you, God, for showing the importance of spending time in your Word. It is by your Word I receive revelation about what you want me to do. Help me to reflect on it more and more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
