Luke1:1-25!

Image
Introduction Luke 1:1–25: Luke’s Gospel opens with a prologue in which he sets forth his claim “to write an orderly account” concerning Jesus. His account begins by detailing the events surrounding the birth of John the Baptist. In today’s reading, the angel Gabriel appears to Zechariah and announces that, even though he and his wife Elizabeth are advanced in years, Elizabeth will bear a son who is to be named John. Because Zechariah responds to the angel’s message with doubt, he is rendered unable to speak. When Elizabeth becomes pregnant, she declares that the Lord has taken away her public disgrace. Today’s Key Verse: Luke 1:15 GNT “John will be great in the Lord’s sight … From his very birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Read 1  Dear Theophilus: Many people have done their best to write a report of the things that have taken place among us.  2  They wrote what we have been told by those who saw these things from the beginning and who proclaimed the m...

Perishable to Imperishable!

Image
Perishable to Imperishable Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:14–15 “The love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.”  (2 Corinthians 5:14–15) The love of Christ compels us! He died for us and rose again to give us right standing with God, not only to provide our way to heaven, but also to save us to do good works while we are still in this world. He has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us, and he is coming back to receive us, so we can be with him. All of this motivates and enables us to take up our assigned places in his earthly kingdom to do his will until he comes to take us home. What does this mean? It means that we are so compelled by his love that we want to make sure his transforming power is at work in us, enabling us to convert the perishable things of this world into the imperishable inheritance...

Zephaniah3:1-20!

Image
Introduction Zephaniah 3:1–20: The prophet declares that Jerusalem’s judgment is assured. Still, the Lord will eventually restore the city, and its residents will be humble and righteous people. Today’s reading concludes with a song of joy, proclaiming an end to the people’s punishment. Today’s Key Verse: Zephaniah 3:17b GNT The LORD will take delight in you, and in his love he will give you new life. Read 3  Jerusalem is doomed, that corrupt, rebellious city that oppresses its own people.  2  It has not listened to the Lord or accepted his discipline. It has not put its trust in the Lord or asked for his help.  3  Its officials are like roaring lions; its judges are like hungry wolves, too greedy to leave a bone until morning.  4  The prophets are irresponsible and treacherous; the priests defile what is sacred, and twist the law of God to their own advantage.  5  But the Lord is still in the city; he doe...

The Son Power Dynamic!

Image
The Son Power Dynamic Scripture: Isaiah 64:4 “Since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him!”  (Isaiah 64:4) The  Son Power  dynamic is God at work in us and in our circumstances. The key ingredient is for us to wait and trust in him. We have learned that God’s desire for us is to not trust in ourselves, but to trust in  him  and his plans for us. Consider all the ways that God works on our behalf. Psalm 38:2 tells us, “The LORD says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you’”  Psalm 16:7 says, “I will bless the LORD who guides me”  Psalm 32:7 proclaims, “For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory”  Ephesians 1:13–14 declares, “You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance”  Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “These things God h...

Recognize the Source!

Image
“You are to purposely slip out for her some grain from the bundles and leave it so that she may glean.” Ruth 2:16 Recognize the Source Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, were both widows, very poor, struggling to survive. Ruth went into the harvest fields every morning to pick up grain that the workers missed. Boaz, the owner of the field, was told how she was providing for Naomi. He told his workers to purposely leave handfuls of grain for Ruth to easily glean. Eventually, Ruth found out it was him and I can hear her telling Naomi, “Boaz is leaving me so much extra grain. He’s showing me favor.” But the truth is, it was God being good to her. Boaz was the resource, but God was the source. God was causing Boaz to want to be good to her. Every good gift comes from our Father in heaven. Be thankful for all the resources He uses, but recognize and be constantly thankful that He is your source. He opened the door you couldn’t open, had somebody decide to give you a good break, got yo...

God’s Infinite Power at Work!

Image
God’s Infinite Power at Work Scripture: Colossians 1:15–17 “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. ” (Colossians 1:15–17) Reread these verses. No other power  imaginable  is greater than what is described here. Christ, himself, is God. He existed before all of creation. God created everything in heaven and earth for him, by him and through him including all things seen and unseen. It is by his great power that all things are held together. This takes on even greater meaning when we look at the universe, the planets, and countless stars. The same incredible power that God...

Serve Your Way up!

Image
Serve the LORD with gladness and delight. Psalm 100:2 Serve Your Way Up Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and served in the household of Potiphar. He could have been bitter and slacked off, but he kept being his best, serving with excellence, doing more than required. Potiphar noticed and put him in charge of his whole household. When Joseph was unjustly put in prison, the same thing happened there. He was so excellent that he was put in charge of the prison. All that led to his interpreting Pharaoh’s dream and being made prime minister of Egypt. You can serve your way up. People notice when you go the extra mile. You should be so productive, so above and beyond, so exceptional at work that there’s a gap when you’re not there. That doesn’t mean you have the most talent; it means you know how to serve well. Keep serving, keep being faithful, keep helping somebody else rise higher. Serve your family with a smile, go to work with a good attitude, sing in the choir with jo...

Soaking Up God’s Word!

Image
Soaking Up God’s Word Scripture: Job 22 The 22nd chapter of Job confirms a few of the basic principles of KingdomNomics for making the Word  of God personally operative in our lives. In verse 21 we are encouraged to acquaint ourselves with God so that we will be at peace with him and have the prospect of good coming our way. It is emphasized for us to receive instruction from his mouth, and then to be sure to lay up his words in our heart. This confirms that we must soak our heart in the Word of God, treating it like our spiritual M and Ms, that is,  m emorizing and  m editating on it. How good it is to feel and know that God is planning to have good coming our way!  These truths point us in the direction of the truth stated in Job 23:14, “For He performs what is appointed for me.”  Wow! This tells us that God is taking an active and working part in our lives as we acquaint ourselves with him and store up his word in our heart. Let’s be sure to first acqu...

The Gift of Revelation!

Image
THE GIFT OF REVELATION “Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” — Matthew 13:13 This verse presents a conundrum. It indicates that Jesus not only revealed knowledge but that He also concealed it. To those who drew near to Him for the right reasons, He released revelation. But to those who came to Him with pride and wrong motives, He concealed truth. Matthew 13 also says, “Whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.” In other words, people who didn’t receive His message would lose even the little revelation they had been given.  This is a hard truth, but I share it to remind you that when you know Jesus, you have been given a precious gift. You don’t know Yeshua because you’re smarter than other people or because you were born into the right home. If you have revelation, it’s because God has given it to you. He has revealed to you what He has hidden...

The Promise of Good Things!

Image
Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.” 2 Samuel 7:28 The Promise of Good Things If you have a child who’s off course, you can live worried and believe the lies that he’s never going to do right. Or you can say, “God, You reign over him. You promise that my seed will be mighty in the land. He will fulfill his destiny.” Let God reign over your circumstances. Keep Him on the throne. Business may be slow and discouraging, but turn it around and say, “Father, You reign over my business. You say that no good thing will You withhold because I walk uprightly. You promise that whatever I touch will prosper and succeed.” That’s not just being positive; that’s putting God on the throne. That’s letting Him reign. Or with your dreams and goals, you don’t have the connections, the funding, or the experience you think you need. Instead of giving up, you have to say, “Father, You reign over my dreams. Thank You that Yo...

The Power to Change Belongs to God!

Image
The Power to Change Belongs to God Scripture: Job 26:8-14 How awesome is our God! In Job 26:8-14  we are told, among other things, that he hangs the earth on nothing, and that he  stirs up the sea with his power, and by his Spirit he adorned the heavens. The power and scope of his workings are beyond human comprehension. Even with the revelation of these truths we are told that, “Indeed these are the mere edges of his ways.” We have so much more to see, understand, and experience in our relationship with God. This is why Paul said he can do more than what we can ask, think, or imagine by his incredible and immeasurable power that is at work on the inside of us and in our circumstances. Today, ask yourself: Does my view of God take into account the unlimited attributes of his capacities? Do I believe he can accomplish anything he desires to do in the heart of a willing Christian who trusts in him? Ask God to help you to see him for who he really is: Almighty God!
