Bursting at the Seams!

Image
“Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams.” Isaiah 54:2–3 Bursting at the Seams It may feel as though you’re stuck. You don’t see how you can accomplish your dreams. But God is not limited by your job, by your salary, by what family you come from. He is saying to you what He said to the Israelites , “Soon you’re going to be bursting at the seams.” He is not always going to take you down a normal, traditional path. You’re going to come into these times when He’s going to do something unusual, something out of the ordinary, something unprecedented , something that’s never happened in your family, never been done in your business. He knows how to get you into overflow that is not just a little more of what you have; it’s a new dimension. He’s going to give you resources, funds, opportunity like you never dreamed. He has increase that you can’t contain, promotion that causes you to explode to a new l...

Sharing in God’s Secrets!

Image
Sharing in God’s Secrets Scripture: Psalm 25:14 “ The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. ” (Psalm 25:14) Imagine it! The Lord actually confides in those who fear him. Not only that, but he also shows them his covenant. This means he shows them his favor. What are we willing to do to experience the favor of God? When we become acquainted with God through his Son, Jesus Christ, all kinds of wonderful things happen. We become friends with God, and friends share secrets along life’s way. The same is true in our relationship with God. He reveals many of the mysteries of the kingdom as our relationship develops with him. “ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory ” (1 Corinthians 2:7) The apostle Paul continued by saying, “T hese are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts ex...

Draw Close!

Image
When you draw close to God, God will draw close to you. James 4:8 Draw Close You may have thought that if you didn’t want anything to do with God, He’d say, “Fine. I’ll blow you off, too. See if I ever help you.” God is not like that. He’s as close as the breath you breathe. All you have to do is call out, to draw close to Him, and He’s right there. He’s not holding the past against you. He’s not upset because you ignored Him. He’s not turned off because you didn’t believe in Him. He waited when you were off course. He waited when you had a bad attitude. He waited when you failed, when you were addicted , when you were compromising . He showed you mercy. He picked you up when you fell. He protected you when you chose the wrong friends. He stopped the accident that could have taken you out. He waited when you were upset because He didn’t answer your prayer. He’s waiting for you now. His arms are opened wide. Why don’t you draw close to Him now. He’s promised to draw close to you. ...

Be a Winning Team Player!

Image
Be a Winning Team Player Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:6 “ We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. ” (1 Corinthians 2:6) Fans of the winning team become really pumped up, yelling and waving their arms. Those of us who practice  Kingdom  of God are not only fans of the winning team, but we are also players on the team—and it is always exciting to be on the winning team! The Bible explains to us God’s plan for the ages and generally how it is going to end. He also reveals how we can be significant players on his winning team. Not only that, he gives us the opportunity to invest our time, talent, and treasure in this huge salvaging operation to save humankind. He even promises an immeasurable return on the the investments made on his behalf. The crazy “wisdom of this age” and the “rulers of this age” are coming to nothing. For this we are truly grateful, since they are ...

Job 37:14-24!

Image
Job 37:14–24 Introduction Job 37:14–24: In today’s conclusion to Elihu ’s advice to Job, he encourages Job to listen and to “consider the wonderful things God does ” and emphasizes the great power of God. Today’s Key Verse: Job 37:23 GNT God’s power is so great that we cannot come near him; he is righteous and just in his dealings with us. Read 14  Pause a moment, Job, and listen; consider the wonderful things God does. 15  Do you know how God gives the command and makes lightning flash from the clouds? 16  Do you know how clouds float in the sky, the work of God’s amazing skill? 17  No, you can only suffer in the heat when the south wind oppresses the land. 18  Can you help God stretch out the sky and make it as hard as polished metal? 19  Teach us what to say to God; our minds are blank; we have nothing to say. 20  I won’t ask to speak with God; why should I give him a chance to destroy me? 21  And now the light in the sky is dazzling,...

Countering a culture of Instant Gratification!

Image
Countering a Culture of Instant Gratification Scripture: Genesis 25:29–34 “Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, ‘Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!’ (That is why he was also called Edom.) Jacob replied, ‘First sell me your birthright.’ ‘Look, I am about to die, Esau said. ‘What good is the birthright to me?’ But Jacob said, ‘Swear to me first.’ So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.” (Genesis 25:29-34) In this passage of Scripture, we see a man foolishly give up his birthright; he exchanges all the benefits and the favor of his father for a pot of stew just because he is hungry. His temporary hunger causes him to mistakenly give up a permanent blessing for something transient. How foolish! Esau did not take time to think of the devastating cons...

How Do You Face The Reality Of Eternity?

Image
How Do You Face the Reality of Eternity? Scripture: John 3:16, 35–36 “ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life ” ( John 3:16 ) “ The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them ” ( John 3:35–36 ) Many people make the mistake of developing perceptions and convictions based only on what they see and observe. Although they may be sincere in their beliefs, when they base their convictions solely on the observable, they are likely to make wrong choices that can ultimately lead to destruction. It is vitally important to see all that pertains to life from God’s perspective. Each of us must face the reality of ETERNITY . We may try to ignore it, minimize it, or refuse to listen to anything about it. However, such actions will not remove the reality of its exis...

Brighter and Brighter!

Image
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. Proverbs 4:18 , ESV Brighter and Brighter It’s interesting that some psychological studies have shown what’s called “the happiness curve .” That research showed that most people are happiest at twenty years old, then it gradually decreases until you’re fifty. We often hear about people having a midlife crisis, being burned out, struggling to go on around the fifty-year low . Then it starts going back up. At seventy, you’re as happy as you were at twenty. But it doesn’t stop there. It continues to rise. After seventy, you’re happier and more fulfilled than you’ve ever been. You may feel discouraged and struggling to find happiness today. Some of what you’re fighting against can be the natural rhythms of life. The people who stay happy, who don’t fall into a state of discouragement, who don’t go downhill, are the people who rule over their thoughts. They are the people who ke...

How to Become a Friend of God!

Image
How to Become a Friend of God Scripture: Psalm 25:14 “ The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. ” ( Psalm 25:14 ) What a majestic promise ! God will confide in those who fear or respect him in the proper way. Because of our relationship with him, we are placed in a position where he can, subject to his sovereign will, bless and favor us. There is no better friend a person can have than Almighty God ! The secret of this relationship is to abide in Christ. “ Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me ” ( John 15:4 ). In John 14:23 , Jesus tells us that he and the Father will make their home with us if we love and obey his commandments. “ Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. ’” When we cultivate relationships with people, we get to know ...

Fuel for Your Faith!

Image
I will exalt you, LORD, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me…you restored my health…you kept me from falling into the pit of death. Psalm 30:1–3 Fuel for Your Faith There are things in your past that should have stopped you. It may have been an illness, an accident, people who were against you, a bad childhood, but you’re still standing, still blessed, still happy, still victorious. That’s a sign the Lord is on your side. Just the fact that you’re here. If some people would have gone through what you’ve been through, they wouldn’t have made it. God didn’t let your enemies triumph over you. Every challenge God has brought you through was designed as fuel for your faith. So when you face new challenges, you can say, “God, You did it for me back then. I know You’ll do it for me now.” You have a history with God. You’ve seen Him make a way where you didn’t see a way. You’ve seen Him have you at the right place at the right time. You’ve seen Him show you m...

Are You Focused on the Son?

Image
Are You Focused on the Son? Scripture: Psalm 16:8 “ I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ” ( Psalm 16:8 ) When you drive a vehicle, you keep your eyes focused on the road. Pilots of aircraft keep their eyes focused on their instrument panels, particularly in inclement weather. Focus is such a critical factor as we navigate through life. If we focus on the wrong values, we will crash. But, like the Psalmist, when we keep our eyes on the Lord, we will not be shaken. For the practitioner of Kingdom of God ,  Christ  is the goal of life—pleasing him, doing his will, being transformed into his likeness, and ultimately, being with him in heaven in a glorified state. “ Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure ” ( Psalm 16:5 ) Have you ever held a penny close to your eye and tried to gaze heavenward? The penny blocks out the sun. In the same manner, when we get consumed with the minutia of life, our vision ...
