JOHN 11:1-16

Image
Introduction John 11:1–16: Today we will read the first part of the account of the death and raising of Lazarus. Jesus receives word that his friend Lazarus is ill, but he delays making the trip to Bethany to see him. He says that the illness will provide an occasion to reveal the glory of God. Today’s Key Verse: John 11:4b [Jesus said concerning the death of Lazarus]: “This has happened in order to bring glory to God, and it will be the means by which the Son of God will receive glory.” Reading 11  A man named Lazarus, who lived in Bethany, became sick. Bethany was the town where Mary and her sister Martha lived. ( 2  This Mary was the one who poured the perfume on the Lord's feet and wiped them with her hair; it was her brother Lazarus who was sick.)  3  The sisters sent Jesus a message: “Lord, your dear friend is sick.” 4  When Jesus heard it, he said, “The final result of this sickness will not be the death of Lazarus; this has happened in order ...

Faith: More Valuable Than Gold!

Image
Faith: More Valuable than Gold Scripture: 1 Peter 1:7 “… The genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ… ” (1 Peter 1:7) This revelation of Scripture is in direct opposition to what the world says. In Kingdom of God , we agree with this statement of truth. We are concerned with converting our perishable time, talent, and treasure into the imperishable values of advancing the kingdom of God, which will last forever! Think about gold or money. What is the most it can do? Worldly wealth can buy perishable things such as power, pleasure, and more stuff. From an eternal point of view, wealth is valuable only if we “convert it” into the imperishable, such as winning friends for eternity by helping people trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior or meeting their physical and material needs in his name. Now think about what faith can “bu...

New Season!

Image
To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 New Seasons it’s important that we hold on to our dreams, that we keep standing in faith, but we also have to realize that God is in control of the seasons of our life. Sometimes you’ve been enjoying a fall harvest season, reaping some fruit for being faithful, enjoying the warmth of some relationships, prospering in your work. But then the season changes, and you come into winter. What was working so well stops. A relationship cools. You feel stuck in your job. If you’re stubborn, you try to force things back into the way it used to be, which only leads to frustration. Be open to what God is doing. Some of the things we’re worried about, losing sleep over, and trying to make work out are simply the hand of God changing the season. We don’t realize He is moving people out, making us uncomfortable, and pushing us into our purpose. He’s saying, “You had a good season, you enjoyed ...

Set Your Mind on the Imperishable!

Image
Set Your Mind on the Imperishable Scripture: Colossians 3:1–4 “ If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. ” (Colossians 3:1–4) We should take the words of Jesus to heart when he tells us to build up treasures for ourselves in heaven. Treasure in this world ultimately perishes. In addition, thieves and rust can make what we treasure here disappear. The Psalmist reflects on the fact he has nothing else in heaven other than the Lord. Any stuff or treasure we have in this world will be left behind unless we have “converted it” into the imperishable by investing it in the kingdom. We can tell where our treasure is by what we are giving our heart to. Jesus says, “ For where your treasure is, there your heart wi...

How You See Yourself!

Image
The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the LORD is with you!...Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Judges 6:12, 14 How You See Yourself God called Gideon a mighty hero while he was hiding in a winepress, afraid, intimidated by the Midianite army. God called him to be a deliverer, a history maker, when he saw himself as limited, inferior, at a disadvantage, unable to do it. Gideon started making excuses. His weak, defeated mentality almost kept him from his destiny. After some more encouragement, he finally made this switch and saw himself as powerful. The question is, how do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as strong, confident, and favored, or as Gideon saw himself? Are you seeing everything else as powerful, but not yourself? One touch of God’s favor can turn around whatever you’re facing. You’re looking at how big your problem is. You need to start looking at how big your God is. He says He’s with...

How to Overcome the Power of Me, Myself and I!

Image
How to Overcome the Power of ‘Me, Myself, and I’ Scripture: Psalm 92:4 “ For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands. ” (Psalm 92:4) The work of God enables us to live the Christian life. We must soak our heart in that revelation! God has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints. He is the one who has delivered us from the evil one and the kingdom of darkness. Finally, he has transferred us into the kingdom of his Son where we now are governed by the law of faith (the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus), which has delivered us from the law of sin and death. All of the above are the work of God… a gift of God to us. When we finally understand and apply these truths, they make us very glad! The impact on our everyday living is transformative when we understand and avail ourselves of  Sonpower  – the power of the Holy Spirit. We now live by the Spirit, walking under his control. When we live by the Spir...

Take Time Every Day

Image
By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. Psalm 41:11 Take Time Every Day Today look back over your life at all those places where God has done unusual, uncommon things that showed He delights in you. Don’t take them for granted. They are a big deal. God gave you breath to breathe for today. He woke you up this morning. He’s the One who sustains you. He protects you from things you know nothing about. You’re still standing in spite of the disappointment, the loss. You’re still healthy, still blessed. If it had not been for the goodness of God, where would you be? You may have been under attack in your health, but the enemy couldn’t finish you off. You may be up against some big obstacles, but God is saying, “Am I not the God who parted the Red Sea? Am I not the God who closed the mouths of lions? Am I not the God who has brought you this far, who has protected you, promoted you, favored you, and made ways where you didn’t see a way?” Take ...

The Awesomeness of God’s Works!

Image
The Awesomeness of God’s Works Scripture: Psalm 92:5 “ O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. ” (Psalm 92:5) Throughout Scripture, the works of God are declared AWESOME.  Sonpower  enables us to experience the great working of God in our everyday living. The finger of God touches every activity in the life of the believer who is submissive to his will. The Hebrew people experienced this for themselves. “ For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them. ” (Psalm 44:3) “ He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. ” (Psalm 103:7) Who knows what God may be willing to do through the righteous person who lives in conformance with his will? When God shines with favor on a person’s life, he can do more than we can ask, think or imagine. Success in living is in the hand of God to give...

Sowers Of Discord!

Image
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. Romans 16:17 Sowers of Discord Becareful of people who try to stir you up. It should be a red flag when someone comes and starts pointing out everything that’s wrong. You have to consider the source. They are constant alarmists, always blowing things out of proportion, knocking your boss, telling you what’s wrong with your spouse, pointing out problems in your church. Don’t take that bait. They’re sowing discord. They’re trying to poison your spirit. Most of the time, they don’t even know all the facts. The Scripture tells us to be peacemakers, not troublemakers. That’s someone who wants you to get bent out of shape, and then they’re quick to give you advice about it. They always have the answers. If you keep listening to them, you’re going to live wrought up, stressed out, on edge. If you dwell on what...

Seek God!

Image
Seek God! Scripture: Job 5:8–9 “ But as for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause — who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number. ” (Job 5:8–9) We live in a world where most people seek  things, stuff, experiences, pleasures, power, money,  and status , thinking they will satisfy the inner longings of their soul. We are seeking the wrong things! Only God, the source of all life, can fill our heart with the contentment and peace we need to live a balanced life. In Kingdom of God the first order of business is to seek the face of God. The Bible tells us, “ Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. ” (Psalm 37:5) The wise person puts this verse into practice. The reason is explained in Scripture: God is the one who makes things happen. In fact, he can do way more than we can ask, think or imagine. His works are awesome, marvelous, and without number! We can live a life of triumph “by the wo...
