Sourced in God!

Image
Sourced in God Memorize and Meditate “ For I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. ” (Philippians 1:19) Soak your Heart This verse is power-packed. I want to soak my heart in it. Our communion with God through the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ provides the way for our deliverance, both in this world and the world to come. In Kingdom of God we learn through Scripture and we practice keeping Jesus Christ as the focus of our life. We realize that everything is sourced in him. His Spirit can supply the peace, love, patience, and kindness we need. He also has the power to ultimately make all things turn out for our good. He is the God of provision and of all power. Sow to the Spirit We learn to communicate with God through prayer, which simply means talking with God. We learn to communicate with God as we acknowledge that all things are sourced in him. We admit that without h...

The Compass of Life!

Image
The Compass of Life Memorize and Meditate “ And he said, ‘…. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren.’”  (Genesis 24:27) Soak your Heart If we expect to receive God’s guidance, direction, and blessing, it is critical that we are “on the way” – the Lord’s way. If we expect him to answer our requests, we must make sure we are abiding in him and his Word is abiding us. We must bring our lives into harmony with his revealed will for us. Only then are we empowered to fulfill the mission he has given us. What better time to check that we are “on the way” God has chosen for us than when we are meditating on the Word he wants to incorporate into our life? Sow to the Spirit As we talk with God, it is important for us to make sure we are conforming with the directions he seeks to give us. Pray, “Lord, I want to make sure what I am doing is in accordance with your revealed will for me at this time.” Abraham’s servant fulfilled his mission by “b...

Forever Settled!

Image
Forever Settled “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” —Romans 5:8 Once when I was ministering at a congregation in Toledo, Ohio, I asked the people to raise their hand if they sometimes wonder whether God really loves them. I would say roughly half the congregation raised their hand in response to my question. But I wasn’t really surprised. I have felt that way myself. Despite hearing that God loves us and knowing it is repeatedly declared in Scripture, sometimes we wake up and just don’t feel God’s love. For whatever reason, some days we try to reach out to God, and we just don’t feel connected to Him. But over the years I have learned what I must do when I begin to feel that way—I have to turn to and focus on the truth of God’s Word. The Bible says in Romans 5:8 that God proved His love for us by sending Jesus to die for us when we weren’t even looking for Him. It says that while we were yet sinners, Messiah died f...

The Best Anxiety Preventive!

Image
The Best Anxiety Preventive Memorize and Meditate “ Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. ” (James 1:21) Soak your Heart For the Word of God to work in our heart, we need to make sure we have a clean heart, free from the control of sin. This is why we confess and repent of our sin to restore a working relationship with God. One of the best protections against sin gaining control is to humbly accept and plant the Word in our heart. God’s Word can save us from fear, anxiety, and a host of other maladies seek to control us. The Psalmist said he hid God’s Word in his heart so he would not sin against God. We want to soak our heart in the Word. Sow to the Spirit As I meditate on these concepts, I want to sow them to the Spirit by praying them into my heart and soul. I ask God to implant his Word deeply within my inner being. His Word is food for my spirit and soul. More times than I can re...

The Beginning and End of Our Faith!

Image
The Beginning and End of Our Faith “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.” —Ezekiel 36:27 Although Ezekiel was an Old Testament prophet, this verse is speaking of a new covenant reality. God is saying that in the new covenant, which was fulfilled in Messiah Jesus, God would cause us to walk in His ways. God is at work in me and in you “both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Phil. 2:13, NKJV). This means that God’s Spirit is moving in our lives, imparting His divine nature to us so we develop a natural affinity to love what God loves and to do what He does. In other words, He is causing us to walk in the ways of His Spirit. Our desire to please God, our passion to share the gospel, our heart to know Him on a deeper level— these are not desires we are creating ourselves; rather, God is creating them in us. Hebrews 12:2 tells us that Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. Our faith ...

The Richest Life!

Image
The Richest Life Memorize and Meditate “ Yes, the Almighty will be your gold and your precious silver. ” (Job 22:25) Soak your Heart For many people, money and earthly wealth become a god. However, as we begin to soak our heart in the Word of God and see it working in us and in our circumstances, a new reality comes into focus. Our relationship with God is far more valuable than anything else. Whereas gold and silver are inanimate, all power belongs to God. He is alive. His works are wonderful. Life is found in him alone. Soak your heart in this truth, and God will become your gold and precious silver. Sow to the Spirit When I talk with God, I acknowledge that he is more precious to me than any material thing. He wants us to partake of his divine nature by way of his Holy Spirit working in us. As we sow these thoughts to the Spirit, we begin to experience the wonders of his Word and to taste a little of the power of the coming age. Flow with the Spirit What a sense of expectation...

Set Apart!

Image
Set Apart “Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.” —Romans 1:1 This verse references God’s words in Genesis 15:6, but they do not apply only to Abraham. Paul said he was “called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.” But guess what? In a sense so are you. We all have been set apart for the gospel of God. We are holy because Christ has made us holy, and the word  holy  means set apart. If God has set us apart for Himself, we need to live in a way that reflects that fact. (See 1 Peter 1:15–21.) We should not look or act like the world because we have come out of the world. We have been chosen to be salt and light. (See Matthew 5:13–14.) We are in the world but not of the world. You are special because God chose you out of the world and set you apart. Jesus said, “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain” (John 15:16). That is t...

God’s Word Works!

Image
God’s Word Works! Memorize and Meditate “ And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. ” (1 Thessalonians 2:13) Soak your Heart If we are to taste the goodness of God’s Word, we first have to receive it, accept it, and implant it in the depths of our heart. We cannot read the Word of God the same way we read other books. God’s Word is living and powerful, and it will work in the life of the believer who views it as such. It works like a powerful medicine when it is properly ingested. We trust that it will prosper in us and accomplish the purpose for which it was sent. Sow to the Spirit As you talk to God, put this verse in your own words. Tell God you believe what it says, and that you look forward to it working in you and through you. View it as a powerful medicine that will work as you memorize and med...

Because of His Love!

Image
Because of His Love “Now during the day He was teaching in the temple, but at evening He would go out and spend the night on the mount that is called Olivet. And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.” —Luke 21:37–38 Recently during a trip to Jerusalem, I visited the Southern Steps, which led into the ancient temple. Those were the steps the common person would travel to present a sacrifice, but they also were often referred to as the Teaching Steps because rabbis went to that location to teach their disciples. Many scholars believe Peter also preached his cutting sermon in Acts 2 from this very spot. Yeshua also taught some of His parables from those steps. Each day, crowds gathered around Him, calling Him Rabbi. He was clothed in the rabbinic anointing, yet He was superior to any of the other leading Jewish figures of His day. In fact, when people heard Him teach, they said, “This man teaches not as our scribes. He teache...

God is Real to Those Who Cultivate a Relationship with Him!

Image
God is Real to Those Who Cultivate a Relationship With Him Memorize and Meditate “ Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. ” (Psalm 37:5–6) Soak your Heart This verse and a multitude of other verses in the Bible assure us that God is at work in the lives of his children. God is relevant. God is real to those who cultivate their relationship with him through Jesus Christ. If we commit our daily routine and mission work to him, and trust him to fulfill what he says, we can expect God to act in us and in our circumstances. He will bring forth the  Christ  in us, and we can expect him to grant success in our mission. Sow to the Spirit verse like this is what I like to call a “button pusher.”  It makes me want to try it. When I talk with God, I tell him I am committing my way to him, and that I trust him to fulfill whatever role he has in mind for accomplishing his ...

You Are Being Changed!

Image
You Are Being Changed “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being trans- formed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” —2 Corinthians 3:18 This verse is one of my favorites in the entire Bible. It is telling us that as we focus on the Lord and His Word, we are seeing into the Spirit of Jesus Himself. And as we look upon Jesus, the Spirit of the Lord is supernaturally transforming us into His image. We are going from glory to glory and from strength to strength. Simply put, you and I are being changed. This is one of the greatest miracles you can ever experience—to look at your life and see how Jesus has changed you. When you think about what you were like five years ago, you should notice that you are different. You should see that you have changed because everything that is alive is growing and changing. Only something that is dead remains the same. Of all the miracles I have experienced in my l...

The Spirit Empowers!

Image
The Spirit Empowers Memorize and Meditate “ For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. ” (Romans 8:13) Soak your Heart We cannot live the Christian life by our own power. By nature, we are shot through with sin. Only by the grace of God can we overcome the power of sin. This verse from Romans tells us that if we put to death the misdeeds of the body by the power of the Spirit, we will live and be able to overcome the power of sin. We have the choice to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to live under his control. Sow to the Spirit Acknowledge to God you are powerless to live the Christian life, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk under his control. Trust that he will empower you to live a life that is pleasing in his sight. Flow with the Spirit Receive by faith the life the Spirit will impart to your mortal body as you trust him to do so. Total dependence on him is critical. He is the c...

Exodus 15:1-18!

Image
Introduction Exodus 15:1–18: Today’s reading includes the Song of Moses that celebrates God’s rescue of the Israelites by defeating the Egyptian king and his army. Today’s Key Verse: Exodus 15:2 GNT The LORD is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will sing about his greatness. Read 15  Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, because he has won a glorious victory;     he has thrown the horses and their riders into the sea. 2  The Lord is my strong defender;     he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him,     my father's God, and I will sing about his greatness. 3  The Lord is a warrior;     the Lord is his name. 4  “He threw Egypt's army and its chariots into the sea;     the best ...

Grow with the Increase from God!

Image
Grow with the Increase from God Memorize and Meditate “ For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. ” (Hebrews 5:13) Soak your Heart The Word of God is to our soul what food is to our physical body. When we grasp this truth, we have a tremendous incentive to delve deeply into the Word and to establish a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Only through a rich diet of the Word dwelling in us can we be strengthened in our inner person. Not only that, but it is impossible for us to grow spiritually without “eating” the Word.  A child or a baby will not grow unless it moves on to a more mature diet. This verse confirms we will be unskilled in our spiritual walk unless we partake of a mature diet. Sow to the Spirit Express gratitude to God for providing his Word. Tell him how much you believe in it. Reflect on how the Word works inside you, transforming your attitudes and behavior. Flow with the Spirit As you listen to the...

Exodus 14:19-31!

Image
Introduction Exodus 14:19–31: The LORD divides the waters of the Red Sea; and with walls of water on both sides, the Israelites walk through the sea on dry ground. The pursing Egyptian army drowns when the water returns to its normal level. Today’s Key Verse: Exodus 14:31 GNT When the Israelites saw the great power with which the LORD had defeated the Egyptians, they stood in awe of the LORD, and they had faith in the LORD and in his servant Moses. Read 19  The angel of God, who had been in front of the army of Israel, moved and went to the rear. The pillar of cloud also moved until it was  20  between the Egyptians and the Israelites. The cloud made it dark for the Egyptians, but gave light to the people of Israel, [ a ]  and so the armies could not come near each other all night. 21  Moses held out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind. It blew all night and turned the sea into dry land. The water was d...

How to Tap Into God’s Power During the Storms of Life!

Image
How to Tap Into God’s Power During the Storms of Life Memorize and Meditate “ Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead. ” (2 Corinthians 1:9) Soak your Heart Our only hope to live the Christian life rests in trusting God to provide the power to live in harmony with his will. Jesus told us that apart from him we can do nothing. We are spiritually bankrupt. Our eternal salvation is provided by trusting in Christ alone. In everyday life, salvation can only be worked out as we trust in him to live through us. We need to continually remind ourselves of this core understanding. Sow to the Spirit God’s power raised Jesus Christ from the dead, and that power is available to us as we learn to tap into it. As we commune with the Holy Spirit and allow him to control us, God’s grace overrides the power of sin. As we trust in him, his life flows through us, allowing us to partake of his all-powerful divine nature. Flo...

The Gift of Conviction!

Image
The Gift of Conviction “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” — Psalm 139:23–24 In this psalm David was praying for the conviction of the Holy Spirit. That may seem like a strange thing to pray for, but hear me: the conviction of the Holy Spirit is a gift. David asked God to search his heart and show him if there was any wrong way in him and then cleanse him of anything that wasn’t of God. Conviction is a gift because when we open our hearts to let the Holy Spirit tell us the truth about ourselves and then choose to agree with what He says, He cleanses and transforms us. The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). So when the Holy Spirit shows us something about our heart or our thinking that is wrong, and we say, “Yes, Father God, save me, forgive me, wash me,...

Think O-I-L: Opportunity, Impact and Legacy!

Image
Think O-I-L:   Opportunity, Impact, Legacy Memorize and Meditate “ Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ” (Philippians 3:12–14) Soak your Heart We must constantly remind ourselves that we are in the process of dying to self so we can live for the Christ who died for us. As outlined in today’s verse, Christ has taken possession of us so we will not waste our time, talent, and treasure on perishable things and secular goals. In order to reach ahead, we have to let the past go. We can’t redo those days. Our goal is to be conformed to Christ and his will. Sow to the Spirit In your prayer life, think of the acronym, “O-I-L...
