Leviticus 25:39-55!

Image
Leviticus 25:39–55 Introduction Leviticus 25:39–55: Moses reminded the Israelites that it was God who freed them from slavery in Egypt and that they are now the “LORD’s slaves,” called to serve God and obey his commands. Today’s Key Verse: Leviticus 25:55 (GNT) Israelites cannot be permanent slaves, because the people of Israel are the LORD’s slaves. He brought them out of Egypt; he is the LORD their God. Read 39  If any Israelites living near you become so poor that they sell themselves to you as a slave, you shall not make them do the work of a slave.  40  They shall stay with you as hired workers and serve you until the next Year of Restoration.  41  At that time they and their children shall leave you and return to their family and to the property of their ancestors.  42  The people of Israel are the Lord’s slaves, and he brought them out of Egypt; they must not be sold into slavery.  43  Do not treat them harshly, but obey yo...

Do You Serve God or the Things of This World?

Image
Do You Serve God or the Things of This World? Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:10 “… for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. ”  None of us want Demas’s choice to be a part of our legacy. We do not want it said of us that we so loved this world that we abandoned opportunities to live a life that will echo into eternity. Exchanging a life of eternal value for one that is perishing is not a good exchange at all. As a companion in the service of Paul, Demas was living a life that would echo into eternity. But the allure of the world deceived him. Scripture says that friendship with the world makes us enemies of God. We are not to love the things of the world more than we love God. This does not mean we cannot be  in  the world, and serve effectively for the Lord. God’s people are spread throughout the world system, joyously doing his work. Scripture tells us that even in Caesar’s h...

Leviticus 25:23-38

Image
Leviticus 25:23–38 Introduction Leviticus 25:23–38: Occasionally, dire circumstances forced those in poverty to sell their property or land and they could no longer make a living from it. Today’s reading commands the people of God to look after the needs of the poor. Today’s Key Verse: Leviticus 25:23 (GNT) Your land must not be sold on a permanent basis, because you do not own it; it belongs to God, and you are like foreigners who are allowed to make use of it. Read 23  Your land must not be sold on a permanent basis, because you do not own it; it belongs to God, and you are like foreigners who are allowed to make use of it. 24  When land is sold, the right of the original owner to buy it back must be recognized.  25  If any of you Israelites become poor and are forced to sell your land, your closest relative is to buy it back.  26  If you have no relative to buy it back, you may later become prosperous and have enough to buy it back yourself. ...

Victim or Victors?

Image
Victim or Victor? Scripture: Genesis 4:7 “ If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”  Satan is in the business of stealing, killing, and destroying lives. Sin is crouching at our door, looking for the opportunity to gain control. God’s instruction to Cain still applies to us today. We must master sin. We can only do so as we are empowered by the Spirit of God. In Kingdom of God ,  we discuss three types of givers: the default giver, the philanthropist, and the strategic kingdom investor. Our objective is to be transformed from a default giver or philanthropist to a level-three giver, a strategic kingdom investor. The process of becoming a strategic kingdom investor is a daily battle. The power of the cross must continuously work, crucifying us to the lures of this world. We are never permanently immune to the deceitfulness of riches, cares, and th...

Everything You Need!

Image
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Psalm 37:4 Everything You Need When God breathed His life into you, He put in you everything you need to fulfill your destiny. The Most High God is on your side. You have royal blood flowing through your veins. There are dreams in you so big that you can’t accomplish them on your own. It’s going to take you connecting with the Giver of dreams, knowing that God is directing your steps. But you have to stir up your dream. The enemy would love for you to keep your dream buried and wants to convince you that it’s never going to happen. Don’t believe those lies. You can still become all you were created to be. Whatever dream that God has put in you, no matter how long it’s been, no matter how impossible it looks, stir it up. It starts in your thinking, in what you’re believing, and in what you’re saying. No more saying, “It’s never going to happen.” No, you have to say, “I’m surroun...

Open My Eyes!

Image
Open My Eyes! Scripture: 2 Kings 6:16–17 “’ Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ”  We are in a spiritual battle. Seemingly insurmountable circumstances perplex us, frighten us, and unsettle us. Life seems like a planned obstacle course intended to test us and strengthen our faith. In today’s passage, Elisha’s servant was afraid when they were surrounded by the Syrian army. Elisha reminded him not to be afraid since “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha asked the Lord to open the eyes of the servant so he could see this was the case. The world we see is in tremendous conflict and turmoil. In many ways it is the outward manifestation of the unseen battles that are taking place in the spiritual...

It’s Still Stored Up!

Image
Then the word of the LORD came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” Genesis 15:4 It’s Still Stored Up When God promised Abraham that he and Sarah would have a son, Sarah was way past the childbearing years. Year after year went by with no baby. They decided to try to help God out. Sarah gave Abraham her maid, Hagar, to sleep with, and they had a son, but he wasn’t the promised child. Then Sarah got mad at Abraham when Hagar despised her. Abraham got frustrated with Sarah. Hagar was treated so badly by Sarah that she fled into the desert. There was all kinds of dysfunction in their home. You would think that God would say, “Abraham, you blew it. You’re too messed up. I’m done with you.” But in spite of all the mistakes, God said, “Abraham, I still have your promise stored up. I still have a baby for you.” Against all odds, when Abraham was one hundred years old, Sarah had a baby boy named Isaac, the promised child. ...

Fix It With Philippians4:6!

Image
Fix It With Philippians 4:6 Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 “ Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ”  One time I heard a person say, “Fix it with Philippians 4:6.” We experience a lot of turmoil and challenges we need help to overcome. Philippians 4:6-7 gives us a formula to cope successfully with these episodes. The key to overcoming challenges is learning how to pray. Everything good thing is sourced in God, and all of God’s promises have their “yes” or fulfillment in the person of Jesus Christ. This in itself should help relieve the anxiety or worry that the flesh wants to control us. With an attitude of thankfulness that God will hear our prayers and requests, we are to make our needs known to him. The promise is that the peace of God will, indeed, guard our hearts and m...

Like a Warrior!

Image
The LORD will march out like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies. Isaiah 42:13 Like a Warrior You may feel overwhelmed by a bad medical report, by a broken relationship, or by being cheated in a business deal. In tough times, you have to realize you’re not alone. The Most High God is fighting for you. He’s got your back. He’s brought you through in the past, and He’s going to bring you through in the future. God looks at your enemies and says, “If you mess with them, you have to first face Me.” Now you have to do your part and get your fire back. You can’t sit around in self-pity and think about what you lost, who hurt you, and how unfair it was. That’s going to keep you down. Shake off that weak, defeated mentality and have a warrior mentality. Your attitude has to be that no matter what comes against you, it cannot defeat you. A warrior doesn’t complain about opposition; a warrior...

Root Your Zeal in the Knowledge of God!

Image
Root Your Zeal in the Knowledge of God Scripture: Romans 10:2-4 “ For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. ” (Romans 10:2-4) What a huge red flag for us to heed in these verses from Romans! Indeed, zeal is a wonderful attribute to have in doing the Lord’s work. However, we must be sure our zeal is based on the right knowledge of Christ. We do not want to have a zeal that is unproductive. Instead, we need to be fueled by the Spirit of God. The religious establishment of Jesus’s day had a zeal for God, but it was based on the law, self-effort, works, and self-justification rather than faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus was in this world, zeal for his Father’s house consumed his life. When I ...

So What?

Image
What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? Romans 3:3 So What? One of the biggest battles that we all face is the battle of containment. The enemy can’t do anything about the ground you’ve already gained, but he’ll do everything he can to try to keep you from going forward. His goal is to convince you to settle where you are. He’ll use other people to tell you that you’ll never be successful, that you can’t break an addiction, and they’ll throw water on what you’re passionate about. You have to quit letting people pull you down. The apostle Paul says, “So what if they don’t believe?” Just because somebody doesn’t believe that you can do what God put in your heart doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t change the faithfulness of God to bring it to pass. Your attitude should be that you don’t need other people to cheer you on and support you. You and God are a majority. If God is for you, who dare be against you? Start encoura...

Soaking in the Word of God!

Image
Soaking in the Word of God Scripture: Luke 2:19 “ But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. ” (Luke 2:19) Can you imagine Mary’s reaction when the shepherds told her about the supernatural events they experienced when Jesus was born? We learn an important lesson from Mary in this passage.  She treasured and pondered these things in her heart.  When we treasure things in our heart, they are special and we think of them often. They are the “go-to things” we reflect upon. These thoughts help us develop convictions that impact our behavior. In Kingdom of God we believe in  soaking our heart in the Word of God. The heart absorbs whatever it is soaking in, so a cursory reading of the Word of God is not enough. We must treasure its content and ponder what it is saying to us. Scripture is living and powerful; it impacts how we think, feel, and act. The supernatural exposure the shepherds experienced to the Word, as expressed by the heavenly hos...

Talk Back!

Image
Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God! Psalm 42:11 Talk Back In Psalm 42, the psalmist was so deeply discouraged that he didn’t think he could go on. He says, “My heart is breaking.” He felt forsaken, as though he was wandering in the darkness. He adds, “I’m oppressed by my enemies. Their taunts pierce me like fatal wounds.” He kept describing how bad it was, how he wasn’t going to make it. When you let your feelings rule, you’ll start talking defeat and how it’s not going to work out. Right when you thought the psalmist was going to give up, he wrote today’s Scripture. He was talking to himself and saying, “Self, why are you discouraged and being ruled by your feelings? Put your hope back in the Lord. Start talking about how big your God is.” You may feel sad and discouraged, you’ve been through some difficult things, but you have to talk back to your feelings. You can’t keep a depressed attitu...
