The Masks Money Wears

“But the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” (Mark 4:19)

In Kingdom of God, we discuss money because Jesus had a lot to say about money and the dangers associated with it. And money is dangerous, like a rattlesnake. It can be so deceitful.

Jesus tells us that our excessive concern for money can choke the Word, keeping us from bearing fruit. This happens when we think so much about money that we fail to allow the Word of God to take root.

Money can wear many “masks.” Excessive worrying about money is one mask that can hinder us from developing our relationship with God.

Another mask might be an unhealthy desire for money—an assumption that we’ll be satisfied if we have a lot of money.

The mask of desiring the things money may provide can also choke the Word from being effective in our life.

If we allow money to control us in this fashion, we make an idol of it. Instead, we must control money, and use it in our service to God.

The fire in the fireplace serves us when it is kept in the fireplace. Outside of the fireplace it is a dangerous tool of destruction.

Instead of our serving money, we must serve God with the money entrusted to us. Otherwise money can be a tool for destroying us. Let’s keep money in the place of a servant, and not allow it to become our master.

Today, ask yourself:

What is my relationship to money? Am I serving it, or am I serving God with the money entrusted to me?

  The Source of Son Power “ In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever. They will wear out like old clothing. You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever. ” (Hebrews 1:10–12) These verses were written about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus is the one who laid the foundation of the earth! Jesus made the heavens with his hands! Jesus is the one who is always the same and will live forever! The earth and heavens we are able to see will be folded up someday and discarded like old clothing, but Jesus will live forever.
